Graduation Gift?

Image

Thanks to our fantastic personal bargain shopper and neighbor, we have recently created 2 one-of-a-kind t-shirt quilts from reclaimed t-shirts that are available for sale! These “up-cycled” t-shirts created two terrific and unique quilts.  Please read on for descriptions. There is more to each quilt than just what is pictured here. (We’d be happy to let you see them up close before you decide to purchase.)

This first one would be a perfect gift for a graduate, specifically someone heading off to or graduating from Virginia Tech. Or maybe a birthday present for a young man hoping to someday be a Hokie? It measures 55″ x 80″ and will sell for $140.

Hokie Guy

We also have an adorable smaller sized quilt that would be perfect for a young lady, perhaps in Elementary or going off to Middle School.

All Girl

This one measures 50″x57″ and is listed at $90.

Please contact us at acrosscountryquilts@gmail.com if you’re interested in either of these.

No Hills

Image

Well we didn’t run hills today…just a flat four in a light humid drizzle notorious in VB springtime.  Instead we’re ramping it up on the sewing machines, working on a several quilts that will be up for sale soon. One is a beach teen boy theme, another will be perfect for a young girl, and a third made from fleece pajamas that will keep anyone cuddly.  As we’re getting toward the end of the school year, if you’re looking for a perfect gift for your student to celebrate the end of another school year, we might have it. Pictures will be posted soon.

Meanwhile, you’ll have to settle for this one from our run Tuesday morning. As we were heading home on the boardwalk, we noticed some sort of photography shoot was going on at the otherwise quiet beach at sunrise. A young woman was wearing a pink fairytale type gown, so maybe senior photos? We enjoyed it, and hope they got the shot they wanted. Here’s hoping for a morning like that tomorrow when we run Croatan!

Sara, thanks for helping me finish up Tara’s quilt.  You are ”sew” much more than just my running friend; you are truly the “best business partner ever”!  I had so much fun piecing together her USNA and Navy t-shirts.  Despite the fact that she was class 0f ’03 and didn’t have a “real plebe year,” she was able to collect several great shirts.  Actually, it was like a stroll down memory lane or Stribling Walk.

T-Bear

Working together to tackle this quilt was a brilliant plan so we could have the quilt completed before she returns home this weekend.  She is going to love it.  I will drop it off at her house as a welcome home surpise!

Are you interested in hill work tomorrow?  We could run up and down Rudee Inlet Bridge several times. It might be a good idea if we’re going to do some of the shorter races coming up. Have a fantastic Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow at 5:30 for our run.

Friday Fun Run

Image

Thanks, Sara, for the great Croatan run this morning. I couldn’t help feel a little nostalgic…we took this route the first time we ran together.  Geez, was that a lot of moons ago. We considered this 6 miler a “long run”.  You introduced me to run/walk 9-1.  I remember eagerly watching my non-GPS watch for the next walk!!  Yeah, I love Friday Fun Run through Croatan.  It is definitely hard to beat kicking off the weekend with 6 miles.

Oh, and hey!  I am planning on working on Tara’s quilt tomorrow.  I cut the shirts last night and will be able to sew it together tomorrow.  I am pretty excited… you know how I love USNA “quankets”!  Maybe we can have a knotting/wine tasting evening next week?

Talk soon – Enjoy your FRIDAY!

PS.  Don’t forget to start bringing iPhone with you on our runs next week…the sunrise is getting earlier and earlier!

New and Improved!

You won’t believe the changes we’ve made!!

First of all, it’s all about US! We’ve determined that blogging about quilts is boring. As cool as they may be, they aren’t compelling. Now, we don’t necessarily think we are either, which is why we wanted to focus on the quilts in the first place. But the more we see of other people’s blogs, the more we realize that the human story is the one worth writing and reading about.

Just in case, though, people are as uninterested in us as we think they may be, we’ve decided were going to write for ourselves and each other. We run together most days, but there is still so much to discuss! So what better place to do it than in the blog format, where people might take something from our conversation or even chime in. If you care to add to the discussion, please do.

And we’re still making the quilts/quankets/blankquilts. We’re actually going to have some pre-made soon for purchase. As well as some starter quilt ideas, in case you feel you would like one but either don’t feel you have enough t-shirts to complete a quilt or can’t think of a theme. We really started this endeavor with the idea of helping people, so let us know if we can provide de-cluttering service. Thanks everyone!

Aquaboy

Standard

We finally can now reveal this awesome quilt, made especially so by the the activities and interests of the young man who received it recently for his birthday.

Aquaboy

Obviously, he’s a swimmer, a student, family guy and traveller. He shows you are never too young to have a quilt worth of memories.  His mom gave us these t-shirts in amazing condition, and there was no question the results would show that.  The picture doesn’t quite do justice to the Navy blue, anti-pill fleece on the back, but it’s there.  We know he will enjoy Aquaboy for many years to come, and we also know this kid will soon have enough t’s for another quilt.  Thanks for letting us help you with this one!
